Weapons recovered on highway were dropped by drone in Samba: DGP

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh today said that the weapons recovered by the security forces on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway were dropped from across the border in Samba by a drone.

The J&K Police Chief was in Samba where he inspected the tunnel recently detected by BSF along the International Border. He also reviewed security arrangements and interacted with police officials.

“The tunnel was dug to facilitate infiltration from Pakistan to this side,” he said.

“There are indications that weapons were dropped somewhere in Samba using drones by Pakistan. We are investigating the things,” he said.

“Jammu has witnessed fidayeen attacks like Sunjwan, Nagrota, Raj Bagh, Hiranagar, Pathankot,” he reminded and said that the security agencies were alert to deal with any situation.

Kulgam police had arrested two men with arms from a truck and they were brought to Samba for investigation purposes.

The DGP was on a visit to Udhampur and Kishtwar districts today.

He chaired meetings to review the security scenario, law & order, crime cases. He inaugurated Aman Memorial Open Air Gymnasium, Model Naka and Conference Hall in Kishtwar.

On his arrival at Udhampur the DGP was received by IGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, DIG Udhampur-Reasi range Sujit Kumar, SSP Udhampur Sargun Shukla. Ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented to the DGP on his arrival at DPL Udhampur.

Chairing the officers meeting in District Police Lines Udhampur the DGP lauded the police personnel for accepting and tackling multiple challenges time and again.

The DGP appreciated the good work on NDPS cases particularly organic drugs on the highways and recovery of stolen property despite COVID-19 threat. He stressed on enhancing the functioning of model nakas and added that these model nakas should function round the clock with good infrastructure like CCTV cameras, good strength of personnel with all basic facilities for living. He directed the officers to prepare teams to trace the absconders.

Later in the afternoon the DGP visited district Kishtwar. He was accompanied by IGP Jammu. The DGP was received by SSP Kishtwar Harmeet Singh Mehta and other officers.

The DGP inaugurated Aman Memorial Gymnasium at DPO Kishtwar built in the memory of Martyr DySp Aman Thakur, who made supreme sacrifice of his life in the line of duty in February 2019 while fighting militants in district Kulgam. He also presented a photo frame of the martyr to his brother and said that the nation is indebted to the sacrifice of the brave son of the soil who will always be remembered.

At TRC Kishtwar the DGP inaugurated Open Air Gymnasium for the local people of district Kishtwar.

The DGP also inaugurated Conference Hall at District Police Lines Kishtwar and Model Naka at Thathri.
