In yet another alarming development in China, a new deadly bacterial infection has left over 3000 people infected with the deadly disease.
Authorities of the city of Lanzhou in northwest China on Thursday confirmed that at least 3245 people have tested positive for a bacterial disease brucellosis due to a leak caused by a biopharmaceutical company in 2019.
Also known as Mediterranean fever, Brucellosis is an infectious bacterial disease affecting human beings. Transmitted by contact with infected livestock including cattle and sheep, the symptoms include fever, malaise and headaches.
According to China’s CDC, it can also damage the male testes, female ovaries and other reproductive systems.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, untreated, brucellosis can lead to death.
